Nerd Corner

The rest of this website shows results. This is about the tools behind them – and what I use them for.

Cameras

My working tools for photo and film: two full-frame cameras with reliable autofocus and plenty of reserve in the highlights and shadows. That helps with interiors with bright windows just as much as with animals in motion.

Sony Alpha 7 V

The newer of the two: a partially stacked full-frame sensor with around 33 megapixels, 4K video up to 120 frames per second (Super 35, up to 60 in full frame) and in-body stabilisation.

Most of the images on this website were taken with it – the shooting data is shown in each enlarged view.

Horizontal angles of view on full frame, rounded. The wider the angle, the more space fits into the picture – and the more important a clean perspective becomes.

Workflow

  1. Shooting

Manual exposure, indoors with exposure brackets for windows and shadows.

  2. Selection

Only the strongest shots move on – for private shoots via your selection gallery.

  3. Development

Lightroom Classic: exposure, colour, perspective, HDR merging and panorama.

  4. Fine-tuning

Local masks, object removal, denoising and Super Resolution when needed.

  5. Export

JPEG in the sRGB colour space, PNG when needed – tailored to web, social media and common print uses.

  • Film

Films are made in Final Cut Pro: editing, music, sound design and colour grading. Delivery is as MP4 in the agreed formats.

  • Why no RAW files?

RAW files are raw material, not a finished image. That is why only fully edited files are delivered.

Your Project

The setup grows with the projects. Technology is a tool – what matters is what it creates.
